So, have you both read my feedback on the first draft of your field trip report?

Yes, we have, and we were a bit surprised by some of the comments.

We thought the methods section was pretty detailed, actually.

It was detailed, but it didn't explain why you chose those particular sites.

Oh, I see. We picked them mainly because they were easy to reach.

That's fine, but you need to say so and discuss how it might affect your results.

Should we put that in the methods section or in the discussion?

Mention it briefly in the methods, and then come back to it in the discussion.

What did you think about our data on the rock pools?

That was the strongest part, especially the comparison between high and low tide.

We weren't sure whether to include the photos we took of the crabs.

Include one or two, but make sure each one has a clear caption.

The other problem is that we went over the word limit.

By how much?

About 600 words, mostly in the literature review.

Then cut the background section, because a lot of it repeats the lecture notes.

That makes sense. Could we also move the raw data to an appendix?

Yes, that's exactly what an appendix is for.

And when is the final version due?

The end of next week, but I'd be happy to look at another draft before then.
