Short, clear news reports to build vocabulary on society, science and the world.
News reports are excellent listening practice: the speech is clear, the vocabulary is useful and the topics — science, health, environment, technology and world events — appear in IELTS, TOEFL and everyday conversation. These exercises use short, public-domain news reports read at a measured pace.
Read the title first and predict five words you might hear. Then work sentence by sentence. Proper names of people and places can be hard to spell, so use hints for them and focus your effort on the rest of the sentence.
For longer and more literary listening, try Audiobook Stories. For exam preparation, see IELTS Listening. The Advanced level contains more passages at the same difficulty.
They come from public-domain sources, and each exercise shows its source and licence on the exercise page.
Most reports are B2–C1. Intermediate learners can still use them with slower playback and hints.
