These terms are an agreement between you and Dictationly about using dictationly.com. By using the site — and in particular by creating an account or logging in, with email or with Google — you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
Dictationly offers online dictation exercises: audio recordings, transcripts, word-by-word checking, a dictionary pop-up, a dictation generator, progress tracking and a leaderboard. The service is currently free. We may add, change or remove features at any time; if we ever introduce paid features, we will explain them clearly before you are charged anything.
You can create an account in two ways:
You agree to give accurate information and to keep your email address up to date so that we can reach you about your account. One person, one account: do not create accounts for other people without their permission, and do not create multiple accounts to gain an advantage on the leaderboard.
Display names must not impersonate another person or organization, and must not be offensive, hateful, sexual, misleading or contain advertising or links. We may change or remove a display name that breaks this rule.
When using Dictationly you agree not to:
You keep the rights to the text you paste into the Dictation Generator and to lessons you create. You must have the right to use that text — for example because you wrote it, it is in the public domain, or its license allows it.
Lessons are private by default. You give us permission to store, process and display your lessons as needed to run the service, and, if you make a lesson public, to show it to anyone who has the link. We may remove any lesson that breaks these terms or the law, or after receiving a valid complaint from a rights holder.
The Dictationly name, logo, design, software and the exercises and texts we write ourselves belong to Dictationly. You may use them for your own personal learning, but you may not copy, sell or republish them without our written permission.
Many recordings and transcripts come from third parties under public-domain or open licenses (for example Creative Commons). Their source, license and attribution are shown on each exercise page, and those licenses apply to that material. Dictionary definitions come from Wiktionary under CC BY-SA.
If you believe content on Dictationly infringes your rights, email [email protected] with a link to the page, a description of the work and proof that you hold the rights. We will review it and remove the content if the complaint is valid.
Points are earned from correctly typed words in each sentence you finish and are for motivation only. They have no monetary value and cannot be exchanged or transferred. We may correct points that were earned in error and reset or remove scores obtained by cheating. We may change how points are calculated at any time.
You can stop using Dictationly at any time. To delete your account and all its data, email [email protected] from the address linked to your account; we will complete the deletion within 30 days.
We may suspend or close an account, with or without notice, if it breaks these terms, creates risk or legal exposure for us or for other users, or has been inactive for a long period. Where reasonable, we will tell you the reason and give you a chance to respond.
Dictationly is a learning tool provided “as is” and “as available”. We work hard to keep transcripts, levels, translations and dictionary entries accurate, but they may contain mistakes, and we do not promise any particular exam score or result. The site may sometimes be unavailable for maintenance or because of technical problems, and we do not guarantee that your saved data will never be lost.
To the extent permitted by law, Dictationly is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for loss of data, profit or opportunity, arising from your use of or inability to use the service. Because the service is free, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the maximum extent the law allows. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be limited by law.
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows the latest version. For significant changes we will give notice on the site or by email before they take effect. If you continue to use Dictationly after the changes take effect, you accept the new terms; if you do not agree, you may close your account.
These terms are governed by the laws of Vietnam. We will first try to resolve any dispute informally — please contact us. If that is not possible, disputes will be settled by the competent court in Vietnam, unless the law of your country gives you the right to bring a claim where you live.
