Good evening. Do come in and have a seat.
Thanks very much. Good evening!
I'm Helen Ward. Could you tell me your full name?
Of course. It's Tomás Ortega.
Lovely. Let's begin with some questions about you.
Let's talk about music. How often do you listen to it?
Oh, pretty much all the time, to be honest!
I've got headphones on whenever I'm commuting or cooking.
What kind of music do you enjoy most?
Mostly jazz, which surprises people, since I'm only twenty-three.
My dad played old records every Sunday, so it kind of stuck.
Have you ever learnt to play an instrument?
Well... I took piano lessons for about five years.
Actually, no — it was more like three, if I'm honest.
I gave up when exams took over, which I really regret now.
Now let's move on to reading. Do you read much?
Hmm, not as much as I'd like, unfortunately.
During term time, I'm mostly reading for my course.
But on holiday, I'll get through three or four novels!
Do you prefer paper books or e-books?
Paper books, without a doubt.
There's something about turning real pages that helps me focus.
Having said that, e-readers are brilliant for travelling light.
Is reading popular with young people in your country?
Surprisingly, yes! It's making a comeback, thanks to social media.
Let's talk about your daily routine.
Is your routine the same every day?
Ha, I wish it were!
It's a bit chaotic, because my lectures start at different times.
The one constant is a strong coffee before nine.
Would you like to change anything about your routine?
Hmm, I'd definitely like to get up earlier.
I keep promising myself I'll go running at seven...
but so far, my bed keeps winning!
Thank you. That's the end of part one.
Great, thank you. That went faster than I expected!
