What Is English Dictation and Why Does It Work?
Published:
Dictation is a simple exercise: you listen to spoken English and write down exactly what you hear. Despite its simplicity, it is one of the most effective ways to improve your listening.
Why dictation works
When you listen passively, your brain fills gaps with guesses. Dictation removes that safety net — every word, ending and article must be written down.
How to practice
Start with short sentences at your level. Listen two or three times, type what you hear, then compare with the transcript. Ten to twenty minutes a day is enough to see real progress.
